"Listen to the messages."
Current mood: focused
YNOT:
The best way for me to feel closer to a culture that began before I was born is to truly get into the music from that time. I look at the album covers, I listen to how they play the music, and most importantly I LISTEN TO WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. A lot of the songs from the 70’s have meanings. It was a different time, with different struggles, and different people. Understanding what was going on then and listening to how they expressed their feelings through their music is how I understand the feeling I get when I hear it.
Some of the classic breaks all share a common struggle of ‘togetherness’. The artists put a lot of energy and feeling towards coming together as people and the sound that comes out of this expression is powerful. The best way to bring people together and to release is through dance.
It’s all in the lyrics, check out these popular ‘go off’ selections:

IT’S JUST BEGUN – THE JIMMY CASTOR BUNCH
Here we come
On the run
Don't know what
we're running from
Day or night
Black or white
Dance or sing
You gotta do your thing
Peace will come
This world will rest
Once we have togetherness

GET ON THE GOODFOOT – JAMES BROWN
I said the long-haired hippies
And the Afro blacks
Can all get together
Across the tracks
And they party
On the good foot
You know they dance
On the good foot
Dance on the good foot
Ain't nothin' going on
But the rent
A whole lotta bills
And my money spent
And that's on my bad foot
You know my face
Is getting short and
I got the blues
I got a funky job
And I pay my dues

WE THE PEOPLE – THE SOUL SEARCHERS
When are we the people gonna be able to see it together?
Lovin’ one another can be easier then lifting a feather
If you can love your brother
Brother can love another
Whenever we the people can understand one another
We the people can love each other aaaaaaaaaaaaoooowwwwwww
